Therese Rourke
Emma Miller award recipient - 2008
Therese’s union involvement began when her dad Cliff took her on his shoulders to Labour Day marches in Brisbane. In 1987, she took on the role of QTU Rep at Undurba State School, and went on to become a Women’s Contact, a sexual harassment referral officer, a member of QTU’s Women Teachers and Girl’s Education Committee, QTU representative on the Queensland Trades and Labour Council, a long-term and continuing member of the QTU’s Professional Development Committee and QTU State Council Representative for Geebung branch from 1996 to 2003.
Besides her Union involvement, Therese always took the promotion of the teaching profession very seriously. She was the QTU rep on the Queensland University of Technology Internship Committee, and in 1998 was elected to the Queensland Board of Teacher Registration as a teacher representative. She remained on the board of what by then had become the Queensland College of Teachers until the end of 2008.
