Representative at her school. After a few months of attending branch meetings, she became involved at the Area Council level, and in 1997 she was elected Conference delegate. By this time, she was the Women's Contact for both her school and her branch, and she attended the QTU Women's Conference in 1998. Maureen also regularly participated in a range of QTU training and activist courses and was able to mentor other participants.
She was actively involved in a number of statewide campaigns, including the Leading Schools campaign in 1998, the introduction of enterprise bargaining, and the 1999-2000 enterprise bargaining campaign. As Union Representative in a special school, Maureen had to deal with a range of challenging issues and used the networks that she has developed through various union activities to access information and advice.
