Maree Jackson
Emma Miller award recipient - 2013
Maree started teaching in 1988 and was a proud QTU member for almost three decades. Maree’s service in TAFE and schools saw her teach in many campuses across Queensland, including Roma, Thursday Island, Brisbane’s Bayside and Bundamba. In that time, she held many positions, including TAFE Council delegate and member of TAFE Council, as well as acting as the QTU TAFE Organiser. She represented TAFE members on QTU State Council, and as the TAFE voice on the QTU Executive for many years, her representation and advocacy for her colleagues cannot be overstated.
During Your Rights at Work, Maree campaigned extensively in Bonner – working at the market stalls and the road side rallies and putting hours of her time and energy into the campaign. Her dedication, commitment and patience have been inspirational for women activists within the QTU and other rank and file trade unionists. Maree retired in 2018.
