Roc Wecker
Nominated by Whitsunday Branch and QTU State Council
Rod Wecker joined the Queensland Teachers’ Union in 1979, and regularly attended meetings in Gladstone and Mackay before becoming a QTU Representative in Proserpine in 1987 at Proserpine State High School.
Rod has held various Whitsunday Branch positions continuously from then until his retirement.
He attended State Conference continuously from 1997. He proxied for Warren Barry at State Council for many years before becoming the Whitsunday State Council Representative from approximately 2002 until his retirement in 2022.
Rod also served a Senior Union/Lead Union Representative from the inception of this role.
Rod has been a very active member of the QTU and represented his branch with passion and drive. He has been instrumental in organising and leading delegations to meet with state and federal parliament representatives during his membership.
During his time as a Union Representative, Rod has also been a key figure in the Whitsunday Branch during strike action, including leading a strike action march to rally outside the office of the state member in Proserpine.
