Glenn Manser
Nominated by The Gap Branch
For more than 30 years, Glenn Manser has actively participated in and promoted the policies and directives of the QTU.
As a Workplace Representative at Bray Park State High School and Secretary of the Pine Rivers South Branch, he was involved in expanding recruitment and lobbying the local Member of Parliament, Linda Lavarch. He campaigned against Leading Schools and participated in the evening QTU members’ visit to Parliament House when the legislation was tabled. Active interjections saw him ejected from the visitors’ gallery.
After relocating to The Gap State High School, Glenn became a Workplace Representative, a position he held until January 2023. He has been the Vice-President of The Gap Branch for 10 years at different times and served 12 unbroken years as President. He has also been a State Conference Delegate (The Gap) many times and was State Council Representative (The Gap) for five consecutive terms, from 2009 to 2023.
As The Gap High School grew, he worked to expand membership and the number of Workplace Representatives. Increased activism led to more school and branch delegations to state and federal Members of Parliament, including Jim Fouras, Kate Jones, Jonty Bush, Mark Furner, John Moore and Leonie Short. Despite the political dynamics at the time, Glenn even met with Campbell Newman (Member for Ashgrove) twice at his electorate office, to discuss EB issues and other member concerns.
Other initiatives included a roadside placard campaign along Waterworks Road to promote the fair funding campaign and Gonski, and the preparation and delivery of a lead and highly accomplished teacher application seminar for branch members. Glenn has been the QTU representative on multiple AST selection panels, a QTU nominee on promotion selection panels and a QTU Lead Union Representative (Metropolitan Central Area Council).
