Payment for supervising pre-service teachers
Are you supervising a preservice teacher? If so, make sure you are being the correct rate for the vital role you are playing.
The QTU has received reports that some universities are supplying material quoting out of date, inadequate payment rates for supervising teachers which have now been superseded by higher rates secured by QTU action.
In 2019, the QTU undertook a long, hard-fought campaign to secure an increased daily rate for teachers who supervise pre-service teachers on their pracs.
This “Claim and Complain” campaign eventually resulted in all major Queensland-based universities (through their industrial association the AHEIA) agreeing to pay teachers $30 a day in 2020, and $34 a day in 2021.
The QTU’s position is clear. Teachers should not provide supervision to preservice teachers for payment of less than $30 a day.
If you receive any paperwork from a university suggesting a lower sum, please forward it to services@qtu.asn.au so we can address it urgently
