Instrumental Music Bulletin - Term 1, 2022
Acting officer
As the acting officer responsible for instrumental music (IM) teachers and instructors while Craig Wood is on leave through Semester 1, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. Substantively working as a primary school teacher, I have advocated for the needs of IM teachers and instructors as a member of both the QTU Executive and the QCT Board. My experience as a QCT Board member makes me particularly well placed to continue moving towards registration recognition through the removal of the return to teach (RTT) condition.
Supervision and RTT
The QTU has received numerous queries during the current school closure from members in the IM space regarding the ability to provide supervision while under a return to teach (RTT) condition. I can report that the QTU has received the following information from the QCT:
Given the impact of COVID-19 and back to school arrangements for Term 1, the QCT will support the current emergent circumstances for the return to school in Term 1 2022 and consider that supervision of children at school by IM teachers in such circumstances would not constitute returning to teaching in a Queensland classroom and therefore would not trigger the RTT condition requirements.
This means that until 7 February, registered teachers with an RTT condition can assist schools with the supervision of students without triggering the requirements of the condition.
Should there be any issues regarding this, please contact the QTU.
