Workload reduction has long been and remains a QTU priority.

In partnership with the Queensland University of Technology, the QTU has been investigating the impact of workload and work intensification on the teaching profession.

Workload reduction has long been and remains a QTU priority. To ensure that discussions with the Department of Education regarding member concerns around work intensification are backed up by current and representative data, a sample of 10,000 QTU members will be asked to participate in a project during Term 3 investigating teachers’ and school leaders’ workload and work intensification in Queensland schools.

Many members have already participated in pilot studies of the project that uses a digital time use ‘app’ for collecting teacher time use data. This app enables teachers to record their time use at various time intervals during the school day.

If you receive an email and/or SMS from the QTU in the week beginning the 14th of August or the 28th of August, you have been selected to participate as one of the 10,000 members.

If you receive the email, we strongly encourage you to:

  1.  download the digital app onto your apple or android phone, and giving consent to the collection of your data through the app (this takes about one minute),
  2. provide some general details about yourself and your school once only in the app. (takes about 1 minute). These details will not identify you in the research, and
  3. complete a time use diary for a thirty-minute block of time and responding to some prompt questions at the start and end of the day. You will do this across three days in a working week (takes about 5 mins each day)

More details about the project can be found on the QUT website at https://research.qut.edu.au/ttpatw/.

The app can be downloaded here: https://research.qut.edu.au/ttpatw/download-the-timetracker-app-here/, along with troubleshooting information.

For any further queries or concerns please contact Professor Greg Thompson at g6.thompson@qut.edu.au or your QTU contact.
